MTV’s ‘Teen Wolf’ Social TV Boom Sneaks Up on Creator Jeff Davis

Reblogged from Mashable, by

When writer Jeff Davis took on the challenge three years ago to reboot the 1980s comedy Teen Wolf, he wasn’t on Twitter and had no clue about Tumblr. But fast-forward through two seasons of his edgier new rendition, and today he’s more than familiar with both sites — they, along with Facebook, have turned his creation into a social TV powerhouse.

“It’s almost like theater to me,” Davis told Mashable. “People really don’t want an autograph anymore; they want a follow on Twitter.”

Season 2 of MTV‘s supernatural drama Teen Wolf ended last Monday “with a bang on social,” attracting 25 Twitter trending topics for the finale and after show…

Throughout the season, the show’s Facebook page also grew its Likes by 127%, spurred on by the success of The Hunt, an eight-week scripted social game on Facebook… The Hunt game on Facebook accompanied season two, and its success paired with the show’s ratings has “definitely played a role” in Teen Wolf getting renewed for a third season, MTV previously told Mashable.
